FEEL THE HEAT AS UNIVERSAL STUDIOS HOLLYWOOD'S HOTTEST ATTRACTION
BRINGS THE BLOCKBUSTER FILM 'BACKDRAFT' TO LIFE
Soundstage Transformed Into Fiery Inferno 150 Times Daily Amid Thunderous Explosions, Ruptured Fuel Lines and Monstrous Flames
UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif., June 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Universal Studios Hollywood today previewed its new extraordinary interactive special effects attraction ... "Backdraft." This stunning re-creation of the greatest special effects from the Ron Howard blockbuster motion picture opens July 1 and will put guests directly into the heat of the film's spectacular final warehouse conflagration.
With fire officials from throughout Southern California and principals from the motion picture on hand, the soundstage which houses "Backdraft" became a fiery furnace amid ruptured fuel lines, melting metal and scalding heat as Universal Studios Hollywood brought the warehouse scene to life with searing reality.
As many as 150 times daily, this carefully choreographed inferno will "trap" as many as 35,000 studio guests who will feel runaway flames licking at their heels. Of course, as opposed to a dangerous real-life blaze, these flames are completely controlled. In fact, Universal visitors will experience the inferno as many as 15 times per hour.
Upon entering a 500,000-cubic-foot soundstage in Studio Center, guests will witness a backdraft flame spinning wildly about the building. Massive explosions of flammable fuel drums are triggered, causing overhead pipes to burst and spew their venomous contents toward onlookers below while red-hot ashes rain down throughout the structure.
Ultimately, the firestorm will surround guests in a pulsating holocaust of heat and thunder. The flames will consume precious air as temperatures reach in excess of 2,000 degrees.
These are not mere optical effects which are incapable of producing the reality of a blistering blaze.
Universal Studios Hollywood Cinemagicians created a completely fireproof building to house "Backdraft." A unique ceiling-to-floor invisible "air curtain" ensures the comfort of guests in the structure.
The air curtain is necessary because Universal Studios Hollywood's guests will be thrust into the center of the flames which engulf everything in their path as they march relentlessly toward the viewing audience.
The imposing fireball ultimately consumes the roof and platform supporting the audience. The resultant red hot tangle of melted metal collapses, leaving thrilled guests poised precariously amongst the unabated flames.
Indeed, no one brings the house down like Universal Studios Hollywood.
