 FEDERAL SIGNAL ANNOUNCES THE ACQUISITION OF
 GERMAN PRECISION TOOL MANUFACTURER
 OAK BROOK, Ill., April 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Joseph J. Ross, chairman of Federal Signal Corp. (NYSE: FSS), announced the purchase by Dayton Progress Corp., a Federal subsidiary, of Schneider Stanznormalien GmbH. Schneider, located near Frankfurt, Germany, is a manufacturer of precision punch and die components with annual sales of more than $3 million plus expected sales of additional Dayton Progress products. The company will continue to operate under its current management.
 In announcing the transaction, Ross stated, "This acquisition accelerates Dayton Progress' strategic objective of increasing its international market penetration, particularly in Europe. Having a local manufacturing presence on the Continent will facilitate implementation of the service and delivery programs necessary to take maximum advantage of Dayton Progress' major growth opportunities in Europe in the coming years. Schneider not only offers the manufacturing resources to accomplish this but also an excellent market reputation in Germany, one of Europe's largest precision punch markets."
 Federal's Dayton Progress subsidiary is a leading worldwide manufacturer of precision punch and die components. The acquisition of Schneider brings the number of Dayton's international operations to four. In addition to Germany, Dayton has manufacturing service centers in Japan, United Kingdom and Canada.
 Federal Signal Corp. is a manufacturer and worldwide supplier of public safety, signaling and communications equipment (Signal Products), fire trucks (Emergency One and Superior), ambulances (Frontline), street sweeping vehicles (Elgin Sweeper and Ravo International), parking control equipment (Federal APD), custom on-premise signage (Federal Sign), carbide cutting tools (Manchester Tool and Bassett Rotary Tool), precision punches and related die components (Dayton Progress, Jamestown Perforators and Container Tooling).
