FEDERAL SIGNAL ANNOUNCES AGREEMENT TO ACQUIRE FRONTLINE CORPORATION
OAK BROOK, Ill., Dec. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Joseph J. Ross, chairman of Federal Signal Corporation (NYSE: FSS), announced the signing of a definitive agreement by Emergency One, Inc., a Federal subsidiary, to acquire Frontline Corporation of Pinellas Park, Fla. The transaction is expected to be completed within 30 days.
Frontline manufactures and markets ambulances, rescue trucks and mobile communication vehicles. The company has annual sales of approximately $9 million and employs approximately 100 people.
In announcing the transaction, Ross stated, "Ambulances are a logical addition to the fire apparatus product line of our Emergency One subsidiary. Furthermore, current market trends within the ambulance industry indicate significant growth and profit opportunities are available to a company with Emergency One's expertise in marketing and manufacturing emergency vehicles.
"Frontline's current product line will benefit from exposure to Emergency One's domestic and international dealer network plus the close geographical proximity between the two organizations should accelerate attainment of operational synergies."
Ross also stated that the distribution network of Emergency One's recent acquisition, Superior Emergency Equipment, Ltd. of Red Deer, Alberta, should greatly enhance ambulance sales opportunities in Canada.
In recent years, Emergency One, a leading manufacturer of fire apparatus for worldwide distribution, has grown significantly through the introduction of innovative state-of-the-art fire fighting apparatus for municipal and commercial users. In addition, in 1988 the company was awarded a multiyear $47 million contract to build the body and fire fighting apparatus for airport rescue and fire fighting vehicles (ARFF) for the U.S. Air Force.
Federal Signal Corporation, listed on the New York Stock Exchange, is a manufacturer and worldwide supplier of public safety, signaling and communications equipment (Signal Products), fire trucks (Emergency One and Superior) and street sweeping vehicles (Elgin Sweeper and Ravo International), parking control equipment (Federal APD), custom on- premise signage (Federal Sign), carbide cutting tools (Manchester Tool and Bassett Rotary Tool), precision punches and related die components (Dayton Progress, Jamestown Perforators and Container Tooling).
