FEATURE/Eat Your Heart Out This Valentine's Day.
Cookie Cakes have been used to show affection from a secret admirer, to express appreciation for a team of employees, or even for a marriage proposal. Great American Cookies knows the popularity of Cookie Cakes this time of year -- it's perhaps their busiest time for personalized cookie requests.
According to Katherine Way, director of marketing for Great American Cookies, many people choose to print off-beat expressions of love on their cookies, but the old stand-by messages remain popular through the years. "We usually have a handful of marriage proposals on cookie cakes each Valentine's Day," she said. "But the most popular messages continue to be along the lines of `Be Mine,' `Be My Valentine,' and, of course, `I Love You.'"
Way says that all ages enjoy giving, and receiving, Cookie Cakes at Valentine's Day. "They are a popular item for school classrooms, families and work groups in addition to traditional sweet hearts."
Great American Cookies offers several ways to make Valentine's Day special. The most-requested Valentine's item is a heart-shaped Cookie Cake with a personal message. It comes in a red and gold, heart-shaped box and carries standard Valentine's greetings or a special message.
Another option to warm your sweetheart's day is a Heart-covered pail filled with a dozen cookies. This is the first year Great American Cookies has offered this unique gift, but it is expected to become a Valentine's favorite. "The cookies are an immediate gratification, and the pail stays around to say `I Love You' day after day," she said. The pails are being offered at select store locations.
Personalized Cookie Cakes are available at all Great American Cookie stores, found in malls throughout the country. Orders may be placed by phone or in person at the store. Great American Cookies can prepare Cookie Cakes or Valentine Pails in five minutes or less while you shop in the mall.
Great American Cookies is a privately held operator and franchisor of mall-based specialty retail cookie outlets. As of September 1997, the system has 364 retail outlets, including 92 company-operated and 272 franchise outlets, generating approximately $90 million in estimated system-wide annual sales.
