FEASI ANNOUNCES BOEING 727 STAGE 3 KIT SALE TO DHL AIRWAYS
MEMPHIS, Tenn., Jan. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Federal Express Aviation Services, Inc. (FEASI) announced today that DHL Airways has added firm orders for two additional Federal Express Stage 3 Kits for its Boeing 727 aircraft and taken one option.
The transaction was arranged in conjunction with Fairview Leasing, which also sold an ex-Federal Express 727-100F to DHL as part of the sale. "These Stage 3 Kits will allow DHL to meet the initial compliance requirement of the Airport Noise and Capacity Act of 1990," according to Richard Cozzi, vice president of air operations for DHL Airways.
The order brings the total number of 727 Stage 3 Kit orders and options to 60, of which 46 have been delivered to date, including 24 on Federal Express' own 727s. The Federal Express Stage 3 Kit reduces aircraft noise though the use of acoustic treatments and an internal exhaust gas mixer assembly. The kits have been certified to meet the quieter U.S. Stage 3 and I.C.A.O. Chapter 3 noise standards.
On Nov. 5, 1990, Congress signed into law the Airport Noise and Capacity Act of 1990, which mandates a phase-out of noisier Stage 2 aircraft operations beginning Dec. 31, 1994. Operators of Stage 2 equipment must either replace them with Stage 3 aircraft or retrofit them to meet Stage 3 requirements. Federal Express developed the Stage 3 Kit for Boeing 727 aircraft in collaboration with Pratt & Whitney, to meet the requirements of its own fleet. Since 1989, it has offered the kit to other airlines through FEASI, the marketing division for its aviation products.
