FC Jawan opens organisation for disabled of FATA.
PESHAWAR -- Despite becoming permanently disabled and having lost both legs and eyes in a terrorist attack, retired from Frontier Corps Balochistan, Niaz Bahadar Afridi, has opened an organization for disabled persons in Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA).
Since I am disabled, I can better understand the sufferings and miseries of other persons with disability and so I have decided to open Niaz Disable Organisation for disabled persons of FATA, said Niaz while addressing a press conference here.
Telling his ordeal, he said he had lost both his eyes and legs in a bomb explosion during official duty in Kohlu district Balochistan on July 19, 2001, he remained bedridden at CMH Balochistan for two months and later referred to FC hospital as he had no other treatment except to live the remaining life without eyes and legs.
I remained on bed at my home in Tirah for two years and received only two lakh rupees pension and one lakh rupees from IG FC Fund as compensation package while later he started getting Rs. 16,000 stipend per month, he said.
Niaz had opened the organization for disabled in Khyber Agency at his own since the peace had restored there, and now he has announced to extend the scope of his organisation to whole in FATA.
He said so far 1200 disabled of Khyber Agency got themselves registered with his organisation, adding that with the help of philanthropists and volunteers, his organsiation was providing wheelchairs to the disabled persons and other facilities.
He said he had devoted his 25 Marlas of land to construct a school for special children there, adding that he had not enough resources to do so and demanded the government and philanthropists to help him for the cause.
Niaz Bahadar demanded the government to conduct a thorough survey of disabled persons in FATA so that rehabilitation centers could be opened in each area as per the population of the persons with disabilities.
He called for setting up of special education centers at Tehsil level in each agency of FATA, provision of special health facilities for disabled persons of FATA, special transport service for the special persons, job quota for disabled persons in government departments, and special monthly package from Bait ul Mall for each disabled person.
