FARREL ACQUISITION BROADENS MARKET ACCESS; COMPANY NOW OFFERS WORLD'S BROADEST ARRAY OF PLASTICS PROCESSING MACHINERY AND TECHNOLOGY
ANSONIA, Conn., Nov. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Strategically broadening its product line on the eve of the plastics industry's important triennial show in Dusseldorf, Germany, Farrel Corporation (NASDAQ: FARL) finalized the acquisition of Maschinenfabrik S. Rockstedt OHG; the move adds one of the industry's most technologically advanced twin screw extruders to Farrel's polymer processing product lines. Twin screw extruders account for approximately 50 percent of capital equipment sales in the plastics compounding industry.
"We have always been a leader in the rubber industry market," Chairman Rolf K. Liebergesell noted. "Now with this strategic acquisition we are positioned to become a leader in the plastics compounding market. With twin screw extruders in our lines we have the broadest array of plastics processing machinery and technology in the world, and we are moving aggressively to increase market share with a 'one-stop-shopping' concept that offers our customers the widest choice of processing alternatives for the broadest range of materials. This is an integral part of our strategy to enhance earnings in both near and long terms."
Farrel, which announced the Rockstedt negotiations at its annual meeting of shareholders in September 1992, anticipates that the acquisition will add as much as $0.10 to per share earnings over the next 12 months. The acquisition was finalized in Germany where the advanced twin screw extruders will be manufactured by the newly formed Farrel-Rockstedt GmbH.
