DETROIT, Aug. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- The hot, lazy days of summer will soon be over as area schools re-open their doors to the fall season and students dust off school books in preparation for yet another school year. One local grocer, Farmer Jack/A&P Supermarkets, would like to assure local kids that a new school year doesn't mean the fun has to end, too.
To make the school year a fun-filled adventure in learning, Farmer Jack/A&P Supermarkets has planned lots of A+ activities for kids this fall as part of the Farmer Jack/A&P "Kid Smart" program, and kids can learn all about them in the Farmer Jack/A&P "Kid Smart" handbook.
Just in time for school, Farmer Jack/A&P will distribute free copies of the "Kid Smart" handbook in all 106 Farmer Jack/A&P stores located throughout Michigan, beginning Aug. 30, 1993.
The full-color, 36-page "Kid Smart" handbook is packed with fun, educational, back-to-school tips and activities to help make starting the new school year a little bit easier for the whole family.
"Kid Smart" reminds kids of the ABCs (Always Be Careful) of walking to and from school to ensure that they travel the safest, quickest route, never walk alone, and navigate safely across streets and around traffic. "Kid Smart" also lets parents and children in on the simple secrets for combating "school morning mania" which can easily overcome any household as the family scurries to get dressed and ready for school on time.
To keep back-to-school shopping in check, "Kid Smart" contains over $32 in money-saving coupons for back-to-school values on families' favorite everyday products and after-school snacks.
In addition, "Kid Smart" contains lots of informative articles written just for kids which outline good study habits and tips for "Taming the TV Monster," as well as explain the importance of school to their future. "Kid Smart" even has helpful advice and words of encouragement for children who are attending a new school for the first time and faced with being the "new kid."
"Because real-world experience is one of the best teachers, a major focus of Farmer Jack/A&P's 'Kid Smart' program is to provide students with educational activities right in their own community that will serve as a practical, hands-on supplement to their usual studies," said Farmer Jack/A&P Supermarkets Director of Advertising Paul Coleman.
That's why Farmer Jack/A&P has teamed up with the Detroit Zoo to give local students an educational opportunity to walk and talk with the Zoo's animals and bring what they learn in school to life.
In a birthday celebration of the Detroit Zoo's 65th Anniversary of operation, Farmer Jack/A&P will crown over 100 lucky Michigan students as a Detroit Zoo "Zoo Keeper for the Day." The student "Zoo Keepers" will win the opportunity to lead their entire class on a field trip to the Detroit Zoo on Oct. 22, 1993, as part of the Farmer Jack/A&P "You the Zoo and Your Classmates Too! Adventures in Learning Sweepstakes." One winning "Zoo Keeper" will be selected from each of Farmer Jack/A&P's 106 store locations.
And to put some fun, artistic flare into their U.S. geography lessons, children can also enter to win a gigantic paint-by-state map of the United States for their classroom. Entry forms for the Farmer Jack/A&P "Adventures in Learning Sweepstakes" are only available in the Farmer Jack/A&P "Kid Smart" handbook.
"Making learning fun and exciting, through field trips and hands-on activities, is a great motivator. Farmer Jack/A&P also believes it is important to educate children about the often overlooked natural environment, landmarks and attractions throughout Michigan, in order to cultivate a sense of community and respect among children for the areas in which they live," Coleman said.
Farmer Jack/A&P Supermarkets is headquartered in Detroit and is one of Michigan's largest grocery chains with 106 stores throughout the state.
