FAREWELL TO CITY'S CRUISE LINERS , WE'LL SEE YOU SOON; Last cruise ship visitor of season calls in at the Mersey waterfront.

Byline: PETER ELSON ECHO Reporter ElsonPeter @

AS befits the last cruise liner visiting Liverpool for this summer season, MS Hanseatic is a rather special ship.

Making her maiden Mersey call, Hanseatic is according to the Berlitz Complete Guide to Cruising (the cruise passengers' Bible), the world's only five-star expedition-cruise ship.

On a round-UK cruise from Hamburg, Hanseatic only carries 184 passengers and often cruises to the Antarctic.

Built in 1991 as Society Adventurer, Hanseatic has been owned by Germany's premier line Hapag Lloyd since 1997. She is the fourth Hanseatic and the first one was formerly Canadian Pacific's famous Liverpool liner Empress of Scotland.
