FAREWELL FOR TAX STAFF AS OFFICE CLOSES.

TWENTY-FIVE employees at Southport's tax office were this week made redundant after HM Revenue and Customs moved forward with plans to close Dukes House.

Staff in the customer operations department, which deals with the processing of post and tax returns, accepted severance pay deals.

Two employees agreed to be redeployed to other offices while eight staff will continue to run a public enquiry desk which will remain in the town.

Colleagues - some of whom have collected up to 40 years' service with the Inland Revenue - held a farewell party on Wednesday.
