FANUC ROBOTICS SUPPLIES GENERAL MOTORS WITH AUTOMATED ANT-CHIP AND TOP COAT PAINT SYSTEM

DETROIT, Oct. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- General Motors Corporation (NYSE: GM) has selected FANUC Robotics North America to provide an automated paint system for its Lordstown, Ohio, assembly plant. The four-robot system will apply an anti-chip coating and top coat paint to 1994 Chevrolet Cavalier and Pontiac Sunbird models.
The system, equipped with electrostatic paint guns, will apply leading-edge hood and roof anti-chip coatings, in addition to rocker panel anti-chip coating. Top coat paint robots will complement selected fixed automation areas now used for base and clear coat applications.
"Key to the system is our ability to provide anti-chip and top coat finishing at high-line speeds while still meeting the customer's stringent quality requirements," said James Vaughan, FANUC Robotics' manager of paint and sealing sales. "In addition to other major paint shop projects, FANUC Robotics has already supplied successful automated assembly and fabrication systems to the Lordstown facility."
