FANUC ROBOTICS PROVIDES VOLKSWAGEN OF MEXICO WITH AUTOMATED PAINT SYSTEM
AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Sept. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- FANUC Robotics North America has completed installation of an automated paint system for Volkswagen of Mexico's automobile assembly planted located in Puebla, Mexico.
"The integrated paint system, which includes four P-150 paint robots, will be used to apply metallic dust coat paint to the Volkswagen Golf, Jetta and Sedan models," said Matt Jahnke, general manager of FANUC Robotics' Mexico operations. "The P-150 has been recognized for setting the standard of high-performance electric paint robots. It provides consistent film build quality, which is essential in metallic paint applications."
The new paint system represents the third FANUC Robotics paint system installation for Volkswagen since 1989. FANUC Robotics has installed an 80-robot system to paint Volkswagen Golf and Jetta models in Wolfsburg, Germany, and a 32-robot system in Emden, Germany, to paint the German automaker's Passat saloon and estate models.
"FANUC's P-series paint robots have improved quality and productivity in paint shops worldwide," said Calixto Hernandez, Volkswagen's planning department chief. "Consistent vehicle paint finish and lower paint consumption will enable us to enhance our final product quality and reduce operating costs."
"As automation technology reaches Mexico's growing and dynamic automotive industry, an increasing number of manufacturers will achieve their objectives for cost-effective, world-class paint finishes," Hernandez said.
FANUC Robotics North America, headquartered in Auburn Hills, is the robot industry leader in North America with cumulative sales exceeding $1 billion and more than 12,500 units in service worldwide.
