FANUC ROBOTICS NORTH AMERICA INSTALLS ROBOTIC PRIMER SURFACE POWDER APPLICATION FOR GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION

DETROIT, June 21 /PRNewswire/ -- FANUC Robotics North America, Inc. has completed installation and start-up of the first two of three robotic paint systems to apply powder primer surfacer to General Motors' (NYSE: GM) S-Series vehicles. The systems are installed at GM's Shreveport, La., and Linden, N.J., production facilities. The third system will be installed at its newly constructed paint shop in Moraine, Ohio.
The systems use P-155 paint robots for powder cut-in of hard-to- reach locations including pickup box interiors, bumpers and inside wheel wells. Powder blackout is applied in areas between doors and window frames.
"Durable powder paint applications use non-volatile organic compounds (solvents), allowing the plants to improve product quality while meeting stringent federal, state and local environmental regulations," said Doug Frank, national account manager for FANUC Robotics. "In addition, the robots used in these applications have been approved by Factory Mutual. With the national focus on improving environmental quality, FANUC Robotics continues to develop new products and applications to help improve customers' paint transfer efficiency."
