 FANNIE MAY COMPLETES ACQUISITION OF FANNY FARMER;
 MERGER FORMS LARGEST CANDY CHAIN IN THE NATION
 CHICAGO, Sept. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Fannie May Candy Shops announced today its parent company, Archibald Candy Corp., has completed the acquisition of Fanny Farmer Candy Shops from Chocamerican, Inc., the U.S. holding company of Midial, S.A. of France. The deal merges two of the nation's oldest candy chains into its largest.
 The sale, terms of which were undisclosed, includes Fanny Farmer trademark rights and more than 200 Fanny Farmer retail stores located throughout New England, the Midwest, New York and Florida. Fanny Farmer's candymaking facility in Norwalk, Ohio, is not a part of the acquisition.
 The two candy retailers will continue to operate under their present names, even though Fannie May's manufacturing facility in Chicago will take on responsibility for making Fanny Farmer candies. Fannie May will add approximately 150-200 employees in Chicago to meet the added demand from the Fanny Farmer business.
 "We're going to introduce Fannie May's unbroken tradition of product quality and freshness to Fanny Farmer's loyal customer following," said Richard Peritz, chief executive officer of Archibald Candy. "We think they're in for a sweet surprise."
 Fannie May, which has 255 retail candy stores in the Midwest, in Mid-Atlantic states and in Florida, expects to retain the approximately 1,000 employees currently operating the Fanny Farmer retail stores.
 Fanny Farmer was founded in 1919, Fannie May in 1915.
 Archibald Candy is owned by the Jordan Company, a group of private investors with offices in Chicago and New York. The Jordan Company owns more than 40 companies in a wide range of industries throughout the United States.
