The Pars Community last night slammed Dunfermline chairman John Yorkston and claimed he's throwing up a smokescreen for the board's inability to save the club.

The Fifers are days away from being wound up over an HMRC debt.

But talks aimed at a takeover by the TPC fans group broke down amid accusations they didn't have the cash to back up their plans.

In a statement yesterday, though, they revealed their backers had already bankrolled the club to the tune of more than PS1MILLION.

The TPC added: "We have noted statements made by the chairman with a level of surprise approaching incredulity, as they are not factual.

"In our view, they are merely a smokescreen for the club's inability or unwillingness to accept or reject TPC's final and non-negotiable proposal by the deadline set by us."
