MATTHEWS, N.C., Sept. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Family Dollar Stores, Inc. (NYSE: FDO), a discount store chain operating 2,039 stores in 33 states, reported sales for the month of August 1993 of approximately $102.1 million, or 2.5 percent above sales of $99.6 million for the month of August 1992.
