FAMILY AIRLINES TAPS CATERAIR AND DOBBS FOR INNOVATIVE IN-FLIGHT MEAL SERVICES

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Family Airlines today announced it has awarded in-flight catering contracts to Caterair International Corp. and Dobbs International Services. Caterair will cater Family Airlines' flights at Los Angeles and Las Vegas; Dobbs will provide catering services at Newark, N.J.
Family Airlines plans to begin scheduled Boeing 747 passenger service in early February, subject to approval by the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Federal Aviation Administration.
Meals on Family Airlines' flights will be available as an option at extra cost over the basic $249 roundtrip fare on coast-to-coast flights. The meal option will be explained to customers when they book their reservations with Family Airlines. Meals may be ordered and paid for by credit card at the time reservations are made.
"Although Family Airlines offers a single class of service, our optional meal program enables us to offer passengers more for their money," said Dale Crogan, director of in-flight services for the Las Vegas-based carrier. "Passengers will be seated in coach seats, but their meals will be very similar to those being served in business class sections of the traditional airlines."
Crogan said the emphasis will be on both the quality and portion size of the entree item. "We want our customers to feel they have been well-served and well-fed," said Crogan. "By charging extra for an in-flight meal, we can focus on quality and innovation because the meal cost is not factored into the cost of the passenger's ticket."
Menu innovations may include giant-sized hamburgers or cheeseburgers and New York-style deli sandwiches, in addition to more traditional beef and poultry entrees.
In addition to traditional soft drinks, coffee, tea and juices, a selection of beers and wine splits also will be available, at additional cost, during meal services on Family Airlines' flights.
