FACT SHEET -- HOLIDAY STRESS, HOLIDAY DEADLINES: AMERITECH GREETING CALL SURVEY KEY FINDINGS

 DETROIT, Dec. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Following is a fact sheet on the Ameritech Greeting Call Survey:
 SURVEY OVERVIEW
 Approximately 500 adult Detroit residents were surveyed by telephone in November to determine what they find most stressful about the holidays, when they finish common holiday tasks and the people with whom they would most like to reconnect this holiday season. The Ameritech Greeting Call survey was conducted by The Gallup Organization, Inc. Here are key findings revealed by the survey:
 'TIS THE SEASON OF STRESS
 The holidays are a time of stress, according to survey results. The top stressor for Detroit residents is holiday expenses, followed by lack of time to get everything done, finishing holiday shopping, meeting family obligations, fear of weight gain, finding time for friends and finding time for holiday parties.
 Holiday Expenses
 70 percent of Detroit residents described as somewhat or very
 stressful
 -- women: 74 percent
 -- men: 67 percent
 Overall Lack of Time To Get Things Done
 69 percent of Detroit residents described as somewhat or very
 stressful
 -- women: 72 percent
 -- men: 67 percent
 Finishing Holiday Shopping
 62 percent of Detroit residents described as somewhat or very
 stressful
 -- women: 63 percent
 -- men: 60 percent
 Meeting Family Obligations
 49 percent of Detroit residents described as somewhat or very
 stressful
 -- women: 49 percent
 -- men: 50 percent
 Holiday Eating and Weight Gain
 46 percent of Detroit residents described as somewhat or very
 stressful
 -- women: 56 percent
 -- men: 37 percent
 Finding Time for Family and Friends
 42 percent of Detroit residents described as somewhat or very
 stressful
 -- women: 43 percent
 -- men: 40 percent
 TIMING IS EVERYTHING
 More than half of Detroit residents will have their greeting cards mailed and their tree decorated by mid-December. A week later, about one-half of Detroit residents will have their shopping completed and baking finished. (These percentages represent Detroit residents who reported participating in these holiday tasks.)

 RECONNECT FOR THE HOLIDAYS
 Detroit residents were asked to identify the people they have lost touch with over the past year or two -- with whom they'd most like to reconnect. Friends topped the list with 30 percent of respondents citing an old school or work friend as the person with whom they would most like to reconnect. Nearly 20 percent of Detroit residents wanted to reconnect with a relative such as a brother, sister, parent or grandparent.
 The Ameritech Greeting Call Survey was conducted by The Gallup Organization, Inc., and is representative of all Detroit area adults with a 95 percent level of confidence and a plus/minus 4 percent margin of error.
