FAA AWARDS MARTIN MARIETTA TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE CONTRACT

 BETHESDA, Md., July 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Martin Marietta Corporation (NYSE: ML) has received a contract for systems engineering and technical support for the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) ongoing modernization of the nation's air traffic control system.
 The initial three-year, $56-million contract includes two options for an additional four years, with a potential seven-year value of $145 million. Along with systems engineering, Martin Marietta will provide operations research and program management to the agency and assist in research, engineering and development activities.
 Under the contract, Martin Marietta will support the FAA in developing the systems design for the ongoing national airspace upgrade program. Among technologies the FAA has designated for expanded use will be the Global Positioning System, an orbiting network of satellites that will provide precise navigation. Other technologies the agency wants to be developed further and integrated into the nation's air traffic control system will be weather and surveillance radars, information systems and communications.
 Martin Marietta will perform work on the new contract in Washington. The corporation has been supporting the FAA in improving the nation's air traffic control system since 1984.
 Martin Marietta Corporation, with operations or offices in 37 states and 17 nations outside the United States, has annual sales of $10 billion, $3 billion of which is commercial and civilian government business.
 Principal products and services include space launch vehicles, satellites, advanced technology systems, information systems, management operations, construction aggregates, aircraft controls, aircraft engine thrust reversers and government and technical services.
