F.W. WOOLWORTH SPONSORS FARM ANIMALS TOUR IN CITY SCHOOLS
NEW YORK, May 19 /PRNewswire/ -- The playground at Public School 146, on East 106th Street at First Avenue, was transformed into a farm- yard today as hundreds of youngsters saw at close range -- many for the first time -- horses, cows, sheep, goats, chickens and other domestic animals trucked in from a Brewster, N.Y., farm.
The animals, and their farmhand attendants, were provided by Green Chimneys Children's Services Agency, Brewster-based residential treatment center for children, as part of its educational extension program called "Farm on the
Moo-ve." F.W. Woolworth Co., the New York- based retailer, provided funds for the PS 146 animal display and is also underwriting nine other such events at New York City schools, through mid-June. The program includes five schools in Upper Manhattan and five in the Bronx.
"We fully agree with the underlying philosophy of the Farm-on-the Moo-ve program that it's important for children to be with animals at an early age to help develop relationships with animals that can last a lifetime," said Robert G. Lynn, F.W. Woolworth Co. president and chief executive officer.
Other city schools where Woolworth is sponsoring Farm on the Moo-ve events in coming weeks include, in Manhattan, PS 155, at 319 E. 117th St., on May 27; PS 7, at 160 E. 120th St., June 3; and PS 112 at 535 E. 119th St., June 11; in the Bronx, PS 138, at 2060 Lafayette Ave., on May 22; PS 71, at 3040 Roberts Ave., June 2; IS 74, at 730 Bryant Ave., June 9; Junior HS 125, at 111 Pugsley Ave., June 10 and CS 146, at 968 Coldwell Ave., June 16. An earlier event was held at PS 121, at 232 E. 103rd St. in Manhattan, on April 29.
F.W. Woolworth Co., a subsidiary of Woolworth Corporation, the large multinational retailer, operates approximately 900 general merchandise stores throughout the United States, with more than 100 stores in the Greater New York metropolitan area.
