Extreme Diet Hotel, Channel 4 ; IAN HYLAND on last night's telly.

My thought process while watching this one-off: Looks like a spoof. Sounds like a spoof. Too funny to not be a spoof. Find out if this is a spoof.
The thing that finally tipped me over the edge wasn't the fabulous caricature running the establishment - a Russian diet guru named Galia Grainger who was part Holly Golightly, part Alan Partridge's girlfriend Sonia.
It wasn't even her trusted odd-job man Dennis, tackling an effluent problem while speaking fluent Compare The Meerkat.
It was the decidedly naff name of this high-class weightloss retreat near Hastings, East Sussex. Was Slimmeria a play on Slimmer Here or Slimmer Rear? And if it was the latter, what about the rest of the body?
Anyway, Slimmeria is real. In fact, TOWIE's Gemma Collins spent some time there three years ago.
She only lasted six hours. That may or may not have had something to do with Galia's somewhat unorthodox approach to weight loss: "We will starve you. We will exhaust you. We will whip you into shape. And you will say thank you."
I had to smile; it was almost word for word the warning my wife and I issued to our kids at the start of the school summer holidays.
It seemed to work for Galia's clients, though. In just one week the three we met last night achieved a combined weight loss of more than 50lb.
"We eat a lot of cabbage here," Galia revealed.
That possibly explains the weight loss. It definitely explains the sewage problem.
