Extended Systems' Network Print Server Enables Cost-saving Second-printer Connection for HP's New LaserJet 4000 Printers

BOISE, Idaho, Nov. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Extended Systems today announced ExtendNet EIX multi-protocol print servers for Hewlett-Packard's LaserJet 4000 family of printers. ExtendNet EIX print servers are the first to incorporate two print servers into one internal EIO (Enhanced Input/Output) card. EIO architecture is the next-generation interface for HP network printers and peripherals. By including an additional parallel port, ExtendNet EIX allows attachment to a Hewlett-Packard LaserJet 4000 printer plus an additional printer, such as a color printer, via the same print server. Consistent with the total cost of ownership (TCO) focus of HP's new generation of EIO printers and peripherals, ExtendNet EIX saves money while simultaneously delivering performance and reliability.

"For those customers ready to take advantage of the new EIO technology, Extended Systems is proud to give the option of connecting more than one printer to a network via the same internal print server," stated Scott Stingley, product manager at Extended Systems. "ExtendNet EIX is the first in a series of Extended Systems print server solutions to support the faster performance and higher efficiency of EIO architecture."

Product Features

ExtendNet EIX connects up to two printers and delivers the latest in performance enhancements including: ExtendView management utilities for intuitive setup and configuration; Web-browser status; IP discovery via multi- casting; NWAdmin snap-in utility for NDS environments, and Flash memory upgrades. Simultaneous support for NetWare and NDS, TCP/IP, Windows NT, EtherTalk, LAN Manager, LAN Server, Banyan VINES and Windows 95 ensures users' current and future needs are met.

Investment guarantee

ExtendNet EIX print servers are upgradeable, adapting to networks as they grow and change. The investment is also protected by the Extended Systems Trade-in/Trade-up program. If their network outgrows the installed print server solution, the Extended Systems customer can simply trade it in for a significant discount on a new Extended Systems print server.

Price and availability

Extended Systems' ExtendNet EIX print servers will be available in early December, 1997 for an expected street price of $260. They are widely available through dealers, distributors and VARs. All ExtendNet print servers come with free technical support, a 30-day money-back guarantee and a five- year warranty with return of the product registration card.
