Export of fruit and vegetables breaks records.
Processed fruit and vegetables of 46,500 tons were exported last year, which is a 3.1 percent increase from 2013.
The export of ajvar, pepper dips, compotes, fruit preserves and other canned foods is breaking records. In addition, the cost of these exports which amounted to a record 51.2 million euros in 2014 has been increased by 3 percent.
According to the Macedonian Association of Processors (MAP), the export of canned foods is steadily growing. These products, they say, are capturing more and more foreign markets. Most of these products are sold to the European market where 27,600 tons of processed fruit and vegetables of 28 million euros were exported last year, which is a 59.5 percent of the total value of canned food exports. Sixteen percent was exported to Serbia, 6 percent to Bosnia and Herzegovina and 5.5 percent to Kosovo.
Last year, the most exported canned foods were the canned vegetables. According to MAP, 35,800 tons of processed vegetables of 40.7 million euros were exported in 2014.
