Expert to advise on infection controls.

A LEADING expert is to be brought in to review Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board's infection control processes.

The announcement follows a report by Public Health Wales after an increase in the number of patients with Clostridium difficile infections at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd earlier this year.

The average number of new cases rose from around three per week during 2012 to an average of eight per week during March and April 2013. The report found seven patients identified with Clostridium difficile in 2013 had the infection recorded on their death certificate.

Professor Brian Duerden CBE, a leading expert in healthcare associated infection and antibiotic resistance, will carry out the review.
