Experiment turns into hot new snack.

Byline: Kids Cook by The Register-Guard

MY NAME is Amanda Murphy. I go to Cal Young Middle School and am in the sixth grade. I love sports!

All I did to make this recipe is put some stuff together with popcorn, and there it was! I thought it would be weird, but it turned out really good!

Red Hot Popcorn

1 stick butter (must be butter)

4 ounces cinnamon Red Hots

1/4 cup corn syrup

9 cups popped popcorn (1 bag or 3 ounces microwave popcorn)

In a saucepan over medium-low heat, melt butter, red hots and corn syrup, stirring constantly. Place popped popcorn in paper bag sprayed with cooking spray on the inside. Pour butter mixture over popcorn in the bag. Place in microwave oven for 1 1/2 minutes on high. Then shake bag and repeat cooking in microwave for 1 1/2 minutes longer. Shake and cook for 1 minute longer. Pour out onto waxed paper to cool.
