Exhibition of Archaeological Site of Tell Halaf Opened in Berlin.

Berlin, SANA_ An exhibition of Tell Halaf, an archaeological site in the al-Hasaka governorate, northeastern Syria, was opened on Friday at the German Pergamon Museum, Berlin, amid a huge turnout exceeded 2,000 visitors.

In his inaugural speech, Syrian Minister of Culture Dr.

Riad Ismat, stressed the importance of Syrian-German cooperation in the field of excavations and Orientalism.

On the sidelines of the exhibition, Minister Ismat met with Director of German Archaeological Studies Institute, Dr.

Gierke, his Deputy Dr.

Eichmann, President of the Foundation of Prussian Cultural Heritage Hermann Parzinger, his Deputy Dr.

Gunther and with Dr.

Beata Saljah.

Talks during the meetings dealt with the joint cooperation in the fields of antiques and museums and exchanging experiences in the field of higher education.

The Minister also discussed with Special Commissioner for Cultural Affairs at the German Foreign Ministry Dr.

Creft and German Under-Secretary of Foreign Affairs Wolf-Ruthart Born prospects of developing cooperation between Syria and Germany in the cultural field.

Tell Halaf was discovered by Baron Max von Oppenheim, a German diplomat and Banking heir, while he was surveying the area to build the Baghdad Railway.

He excavated the site between 1911 and 1913 and then again 1929.
