Excessive green taxes; & COMMENT DEBATE YOUR LETTERS TO THE NATIONAL NEWSPAPER OF WALES.

* SIR - Back in the 1970s the "experts" were warning us of another ice age, brrr!

Then Al Gore came along and started preaching about the horrors of global warming, frightening both infants and adults alike, not forgetting the melting of the ice caps and the extinction of the polar bear!

Now, due to the lack of sunspots, we are to prepare for, (surprise, surprise), global cooling and a mini ice-age, brrr!

But why does government take such notice of this buffoonery, to the extent of setting insane emission targets that will be impossible to reach, and which will ruin our economy? The answer appears to be (apart from insanity) that they can continue to frighten and exploit us all by imposing ever more excessive (green) taxes.. taxes until the pips squeak.

Well, if the Government are looking for a really nasty scenario, then how about universal cooling coupled with a global pandemic, and a coronal mass ejection (CME) with these events occurring roughly all at the same time, and that is something to be frightened about!

This postulated scenario is not that far fetched, as scary scenarios litter history such as the Plague of Cyprian, AD 165-180; the Black Death, AD 1348-1350; Spanish flu AD 1918.

Not to forget the Maunder Minimum AD 1645-1715 which produced the Little Ice Age, and the Solar Storm of AD 1859...a similar storm today would shut down satellites and knock out electricity grid networks!

But let's not be shy, how about a super volcano erupting such as Yellowstone Park, USA... this would bring about a nuclear winter as they say!

Or, maybe a large asteroid impact similar to that off the Yucatan Peninsula (Chicxulub Crater) Mexico, which, according to various experts, triggered the demise of the dinosaurs.

The list is endless, and you just need to study history for the truly nightmare stuff!
