Exabyte, Adaptec, and BakBone Team up to Deliver Simple Disk-to-Disk-to-Tape Data Storage Solution; Robust Feature Set and Accessible Price Point Make ``Bundled'' D2D2T Solutions Ideal for Small and Medium-sized Businesses.

BOULDER, Colo. -- Exabyte Corporation (OTCBB: EXBT), the leading innovator in tape backup, restore and archival systems, today announced the availability of E-Z D2D2T Solutions, a new disk-to-disk-to-tape (D2D2T) data backup and storage offering now available in three configurations. By bundling industry-leading products, including Adaptec's Snap(R) Server network attached storage (NAS) solutions and BakBone's(R) NetVault data protection software, with its own innovative tape automation products, Exabyte has created affordable, best-of-breed D2D2T solutions ideal for SMBs and distributed enterprises.

To deliver E-Z D2D2T Solutions, Exabyte thoroughly tested products from Adaptec and BakBone with its own tape autoloaders and put together three "soft" bundles - entry-level, mid-range, and performance options - that can be easily ordered from direct marketers or resellers. These solutions include a disk-based storage server, a tape autoloader, cables, and all the necessary backup software. Additionally, customers are provided an easy-to-follow configuration and deployment guide that explains how the overall solution works together for seamless D2D2T backup and archive.

"Small organizations have little time and few resources to devote to managing critical data," said Robert Amatruda, research manager at IDC. "But companies, such as Exabyte and its partners, that offer cost-effective disk-to-disk-to-tape solutions can help these resource-strapped organizations manage and safe-guard their data."

"Based on customer feedback, we have assembled best-of-breed storage products into comprehensive bundles to create some of the most robust yet simple, flexible, and cost-effective D2D2T solutions on the market today," stated Tom Ward, CEO and president, Exabyte. "The E-Z Solutions address the D2D2T needs of our customers by providing the features and performance they need at a price they can afford."

Both distributed enterprises and SMB organizations will realize significantly improved data protection and enhanced backup efficiency due to the tight integration of the leading storage technologies in this product combination. Exabyte's E-Z D2D2T Solutions are available in three configurations to meet varied customer needs. The entry-level option includes the following:

--Adaptec Snap Server 4200 with 640GB capacity, a 2.0 GHz Celeron(TM) processor, Adaptec's Linux-based GuardianOS(TM), iSCSI target support, integrated anti-virus software, and an easy-to-use management console.

--Exabyte VXA PacketLoader 1x10 (one drive, 10 slots) with 1.6TB capacity (compressed), 1u form factor, bar code reader, direct-attach SCSI, Ethernet port for remote management, and all the benefits of Exabyte's award-winning VXA Packet Technology that reads and writes data in packets - just like the Internet - providing far superior restore integrity, greater capacity, and fast transfer speeds.

--BakBone's NetVault for D2D2T applications (already preloaded on the Adaptec Snap Server) that scales to support Windows, Linux and UNIX clients and provides virtual disk library (VDL) functionality.

--BakBone NetVault 12-slot library license to support the Exabyte PacketLoader.

--A SCSI controller for the Snap Server 4200 NAS solution.

--Adaptec SCSI cable - the one-meter VHDCI to HD-68 model.

The mid-range option includes the following:

--Adaptec Snap Server 4500 NAS solution with 1 TB storage capacity (scalable up to 3 TB), a 3.0 GHz P4 processor, Adaptec's Linux-based GuardianOS, iSCSI target support, integrated anti-virus software, and easy-to-use management console. SCSI controller is included.

--All other components are the same as the entry-level solution.

The performance option includes the following:

--Adaptec Snap Server 4500 NAS solution with 1.6 TB storage capacity (scalable up to 3.6TB), a 3.0 GHz P4 processor, Adaptec's Linux-based GuardianOS, iSCSI target support, integrated anti-virus software, and easy-to-use management console. SCSI controller is included.

--Exabyte Magnum 1x7 LTO Autoloader (one drive, 7 slots) with 2.8TB capacity (compressed), 2u form factor, bar code reader, direct-attach SCSI, Ethernet port for remote management, and the benefits of LTO(TM) (Ultrium(TM)) technology.

--BakBone's NetVault for D2D2T applications (already preloaded on the Snap Server) with support for Windows, Linux and UNIX clients and VDL functionality.

--BakBone NetVault 10-slot library license to support the Exabyte Magnum.

--Adaptec SCSI cable - the one-meter VHDCI to HD-68 model.

Optional upgrades and a maintenance contract are available for all configurations.

"SMBs don't have the time, resources and often the personnel to research storage options from multiple vendors and figure out how to get all the necessary equipment to work together," said Ian Williams, director of channel marketing at Adaptec. "It's got to be simple to purchase, deploy, and maintain. We applaud Exabyte in bringing all our various products together to deliver tested and proven D2D2T Solutions for SMBs."

The Exabyte E-Z D2D2T Solutions combine the speedy backup and recovery features afforded by the disk-to-disk (D2D) approach with the distinctive characteristics that only tape can provide, such as portability, durability, ease of off-site storage, virus immunity, and restore reliability. The unique E-Z hardware and software bundles allow users to safely and reliably store large, frequently accessed files, automate backups to disk, schedule data migration to tape, consolidate less-used data, and recover files at disk speeds.

The E-Z D2D2T Solutions, beginning at less than $6,500 (street), are available immediately through Exabyte's worldwide distribution and reseller networks. Some customer assembly is required. For more information about specific Exabyte products or to find a reseller in your area, please visit
