Ex-mayor in court.

AMERSEYSIDE exmayor has appeared in court charged with falsely claiming benefits.

John Walker, 55, who was Labour mayor of Sefton until his term ended last year, appeared at Liverpool Crown Court together with wife Catie, charged with a variety of offences relating to benefits.

Some of the charges relate to an alleged failure to informthe DWP of his mayoral expenses.

The couple, who deny all the charges, will stand trial at the same court in September.
