Ex-Terriers ace Butterfield joins Luton.

LUTON Town have signed former Town player of the year Jacob Butterfield.

The 29-year-old signed for the Hatters on a free transfer after his Derby County contract was terminated by mutual consent.

Luton clinched promotion from League One last season and Butterfield says he is arriving at the club at a "really exciting" time.

Butterfield was Town's player of the year and Hargreaves Memorial Trophy winner in 2014-15, before being sold to Derby in a PS5m deal on a four-year contract.

Butterfield told Luton's official website: "I think it's a big season for the club, a really exciting time for the club and I'm delighted to be here. They are great lads. I settled in straight away. They are a welcoming bunch and I've been really impressed so far."

Town visit Kenilworth Road on August 31 and welcome Luton to the John Smith's on April 13.

Butterfield was a team-mate of Lewis O'Brien and Jack Payne while on loan at Bradford City last season and previously had a loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday.
