Ex-Duck Dunigan leads team past Oregon, 72-63.

VALENZA PO, Italy - Former Oregon center Michael Dunigan, in his second year of professional basketball, contributed 12 points and eight rebounds for Casale Monferrato as it defeated the Oregon men's basketball team 72-63 Thursday.

The Ducks ended their exhibition tour of Italy 2-3.

Playing their third game in three nights, the Ducks trailed by as many 20 early in the game, and were outscored in the first quarter 32-13.

"We got off to a bad start, and while we fought back, we could not get over the hump," Oregon coach Dana Altman said. "The game was very physical."

The Ducks outrebounded the Italian team, 51-43, but Oregon had 20 turnovers against six assists and shot 28 percent.

Freshman Brett Kingma led the Ducks with 13 points, after another freshman, Jabari Brown, led Oregon in scoring the four previous games of the trip. Brown scored eight Thursday on 3-of-13 from the floor. E.J. Singler scored eight points on just 1-of-9 shooting and had a game-high 15 rebounds.

Oregon forward Jeremy Jacob, coming off cartilage surgery in both knees last season, was held out of the game for "precautionary" reasons.

Beavers put Nicholls State on 2012 schedule

CORVALLIS - Oregon State football will start the 2012 season Sept. 1 against FBS school Nicholls State, then play Brigham Young on Oct. 13, the school announced Thursday.

The Beavers originally were going to play BYU in the opener, but it was pushed back. In OSU's other nonconference game next season, it hosts Wisconsin on Sept. 8.

OSU women win cross country meet

CORVALLIS - Led by champion Audrey Botti in 16 minutes flat, the Oregon State women's cross country team won the John Frank Memorial race Thursday at Avery Park.

Three other Beavers - Erin Jones, Olivia Poblacion and Emily Wheeler - finished in the top 10 over 4,500 meters.

Wildcats shut out NCU soccer, 1-0, at home

MCMINNVILLE - Northwest Christian's men's soccer team lost Thursday to Linfield, 1-0.

The Beacons (1-2) were outshot 17-3. Goalie Nick Kratzke made eight saves. Linfield's Michael Swain scored in the 46th minute on a rebound off the crossbar for the win.
