Evonik Industries (ETR: EVK) - THE NEXT GENERATION OF AIRCRAFT GLAZING: EVONIK EXHIBITS STRETCHED PLEXIGLAS[R] IN NEW RECORD DIMENSIONS - 16/7/2018.
* Evonik to exhibit at the Farnborough International Airshow from July 16-22, 2018 at Stand 1552 / Hall 1.
* Backward-integrated full-service provider of cast and stretched PMMA for the aerospace industry.
* World's largest sheet format for stretched PMMA presented to a broad audience for the first time.
With sizes of up to 3.7 by 5.4 meters, the sheets made of stretched polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) are an unprecedented world novelty in the acrylic glass market. The unique dimension opens up new and innovative design options for aircraft glazing in commercial and military aircraft as well as helicopters.
Furthermore, the PMMA sheets from the stretching process offer significantly higher impact-resistance and greater chemical resistance. That makes the material particularly well suited for the demanding requirements of the aerospace industry.
Evonik recently opened the world's most advanced stretching and polishing facility for PMMA in the German town of Weiterstadt to respond to the emerging trend toward larger aircraft windows in aerospace design. The products are currently qualified in accordance with the standards MIL-P-25690 for the U.S. market and EN 4366 for the European market.
"Our PLEXIGLAS[R] acrylic glass brand combines top quality with absolute reliability and major design freedom for our customers," says Roland Mickal, the head of the Transportation market segment in the Acrylic Products Business Line.
Evonik has been a leading material supplier and innovation driver in the industry for over 80 years with its aeronautical materials made of PLEXIGLAS[R]. The material optimally combines high optical quality, low weight, and UV and weather resistance. As a consequence, PLEXIGLAS[R] is used by numerous manufacturers around the world for cabin windows of commercial aircraft as well as for cockpit glazing in aircraft and helicopters.
