With sizes of up to 3.7 by 5.4 meters, the sheets made of stretched polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) are an unprecedented world novelty in the acrylic glass market. The unique dimension opens up new and innovative design options for aircraft glazing in commercial and military aircraft as well as helicopters.

Furthermore, the PMMA sheets from the stretching process offer significantly higher impact-resistance and greater chemical resistance. That makes the material particularly well suited for the demanding requirements of the aerospace industry.

Evonik recently opened the world's most advanced stretching and polishing facility for PMMA in the German town of Weiterstadt to respond to the emerging trend toward larger aircraft windows in aerospace design. The products are currently qualified in accordance with the standards MIL-P-25690 for the U.S. market and EN 4366 for the European market.
