EVERETT, Wash. - Everett pitchers shut down the Eugene Emeralds on eight hits Thursday night in a 4-1 victory in Northwest League baseball.

Three AquaSox pitchers struck out 14 Emeralds.

Starter Alfredo Venegas handcuffed the Emeralds with six shutout innings, scattering six hits while walking one and striking out nine. Venegas earned the win and improved to 3-3.

Ryan Moorer pitched 1 2/3 innings and struck out three, and Bryan Harris pitched 1 1/3 innings and struck out two to earn his seventh save.

Everett took advantage of Eugene miscues for three runs in the first. Edilio Colina reached on a one-out error. With two outs, Manelik Pimentel hit a single.

Then Kalian Sams hit an RBI single, Welington Dotel hit an RBI double and then scored on a wild pitch by starter Jeremy Hefner, who took the loss and fell to 2-4.

Eugene got on the scoreboard in the seventh after Brad Chalk walked with one out.

With two out, Moorer hit two consecutive batters. Yefri Carvajal then hit an RBI single off Harris.

Carvajal had two hits for Eugene, which heads to Salem-Keizer tonight to start a three-game series. The same teams finish with three games at Civic Stadium next week.

The Volcanoes beat Vancouver 5-0 Thursday night to become the only team in the NWL with a record over .500.
