Events: THE RAINDANCE FILM FESTIVAL - It's a Kaye day.
Sometimes even the stars get bored making mainstream Hollywood blockbusters. If they don't turn to treading the boards of London's West End they take part in indie films. Now the Oscars of the low-budget flick is taking place in London, with the tenth Raindance Festival screening 70 feature films and 200 shorts.
In Tadpole, which opened the festival, Sigourney Weaver plays a mum whose teenage stepson falls for her, while Christina Ricci is a university prefect in Pumpkin, at the finale on November 1. The festival's director-in-residence, Tony Kaye, enjoys a strained relationship with Hollywood and will be showing clips from his controversial Marlon Brando masterclass, Lying For A Living. In it, Brando imparts the wisdom of half-a-century in the business, but Kaye led a walkout on set and was later discovered staging a mock trial of Brando (played by a 500lb black man in a blonde wig) while Kaye himself was dressed up as Osama Bin Laden. Brando is now suing to recover Lying footage.
