Evening of music and wit.

THE Manama Singers and Bahrain Sinfonia will once again join forces to present an evening of music, wit and theatre when they stage the one-act operetta Trial By Jury next month.

The comically entertaining operetta will take audiences back in time to witness the hilarious courtroom antics in the show that made the playwrights Gilbert and Sullivan famous.

Set in the Victorian era, Edwin promises Angelina he will marry her and then promptly changes his mind.

The jilted bride sues Edwin for breach of promise and so ensues an uproarious operetta full of wonderful music, song and fully staged theatrics.

Trial By Jury's first performance in 1874 was an instant success for Gilbert and Sullivan and launched them as one of the most popular duos of all time.

The ladies of the Manama Singers, resplendent in Greek costumes, will also sing excerpts from Princess Ida, another hit from the duo.

The Bahrain Sinfonia will perform some classic orchestral magic, including works by Gershwin, Stauss and Manuel de Falla, under the baton of resident conductor Alistair Auld.

The operetta will take place as two performances, at 4pm and at 8pm at the Golden Tulip Hotel, Manama on March 13.

Tickets priced at BD9 will soon be available from Alosra Supermarket, the Bookcase and the Dilmun Club that are all located in Saar, said organisers.
