Even-handed? I hardly think so!
WHAT a barmy and ill-conceived experiment Leicestershire Police have got themselves entangled (Mail, August 6).
In an experiment to save money, attempted burglaries at even-numbered houses would be fully investigated with forensic teams sent and finger prints taken but would not happen if the victim lived in an odd-numbered house.
As John McEnroe would say "You can't be serious".
Unbelievably, this initiative could be extended to Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Northamptonshire. Will the police be announcing this initiative on Twitter to give advance warning to prospective burglars to target house with odd-numbers in order to save money? Will the police be notifying occupiers of property with odd-numbers to apply to the local authority for a reduction in their council tax because they won't get a full police investigation to a crime? Will estate agents exploit this unique sales point (USP) and give more advertising to even-numbered properties? This crazy scheme smacks at being discriminatory. Moreover, whoever is responsible for this half-baked scheme should be named and shamed.
