Etisalat office in need of makeover after storm.
Summary: Experts order dismantling of iconic spherical structure atop company's head office in Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi: The National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority has instructed Emirates Telecommunications Corporation (etisalat) to dismantle a spherical structure atop its head office in Abu Dhabi city after the structure was severely damaged by strong winds over the past two days.
The NCEMA said it had asked the telecom company to provide engineering solutions to contain the damage and dismantle the sphere.
Representatives of etisalat, construction companies and consultants held meetings overnight to discuss the damage.
NCEMA also urged the public to follow traffic instructions on the main roads leading to etisalat's building while risks are assessed and until such time that the roads are reopened.
As a precaution, some of the streets around the building were closed for the safety of the public.
As reported by Gulf News on Thursday, a senior official told Gulf News that the iconic ball-shaped structure atop the etisalat building next to Futouh Al Khair Centre had been impacted by strong winds. The building is one of two etisalat buildings on Shaikh Rashid Bin Saeed Street (popularly referred to as Airport Road).
The parking lot behind the building is also temporarily out of bounds while maintenance work is undertaken over the next few days.
