Elsevier Health Sciences
Rakel (family and community medicine, Baylor College of Medicine) presents the third edition of a textbook introducing the discipline of family medicine that places a somewhat greater emphasis on evidence-based methods than previous editions. The text begins with 14 chapters covering fundamentals, including the relevance of medical history to family medicine, problem solving, evaluating the medical literature, ethics, family dynamics and health, patient compliance, disease prevention, integrative medicine, electronic medical records, interpreting laboratory tests, and selecting radiographic test. The remainder of the text, some 600 pages, consists of 82 case studies covering the spectrum of family medicine challenges and illustrating the management of patients over time.
