WASHINGTON, D.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 7, 2000

Professional services leader Ernst & Young LLP today named Mark A. Weinberger as the firm's Director of its National Tax Department. In his new role, Mr. Weinberger will also serve on the firm's committee of senior tax partners and will be among the strategic leaders of its tax practice.

Mr. Weinberger was a co-founder of Washington Counsel, P.C., a powerful Washington, D.C. based legislative and regulatory shop that recently combined with Ernst & Young to form Washington Council Ernst & Young, which will be a separate subdivision of Ernst & Young's National Tax Department.

Mr. Weinberger previously served as tax and budget counsel to former Senator John C. Danforth (R-MO) and went on to serve as Chief of Staff and General Counsel to President Clinton's 1994 Bipartisan Commission on Entitlement and Tax reform. Prior to his tenure on Capital Hill, Mr. Weinberger had been with Ernst & Young's Cleveland office as well as in Washington as part of the firm's National Tax Department. He is an Adjunct Fellow on Tax Policy at the center for Strategic and International Studies and a member of the Board of Directors of the Tax Section of the Federal Bar Association.

"I'm extremely pleased to have Mark in this leadership role within the firm," said William J. Lipton, Vice Chairman of Tax Services for Ernst & Young. "Mark's extraordinary credentials and skills are recognized throughout the industry and in the board rooms of Fortune 100 companies. His range of experience will further enhance Ernst & Young's reputation as the preeminent leader among tax services providers in the United States," said Lipton.

A graduate of Emory University, Mr. Weinberger holds a Master's degree in Business Administration and a law degree from Case Western Reserve University, as well as an LL.M in Taxation from Georgetown University Law Center.

Mr. Weinberger succeeds Beth A. Brooke, whom Ernst & Young recently named Vice Chair, Strategy and Corporate Development for North America.
