Erik Truffaz to open y-zmir jazz festival with world premiere.

ySTANBUL (CyHAN)- Swiss-born contemporary jazz trumpeter Erik Truffaz and his quartet will perform the world premiere of their new piece at the opening concert of next month's yzmir European Jazz Festival, news agencies reported on Monday.

Truffaz, known for his improvised style in which he blends elements of dance music and rock and roll, will be joined by Turkish classical pianist sisters Ufuk and Bahar DE[micro]rdE-ncE- in the premiere of "Taksim Suite," the Cihan news agency reported.

"Taksim Suite," written for two pianos and an acoustic trumpet, consists of three parts, each recounting and inspired by various features of ystanbul. In his quartet, Truffaz is joined by Marcello Giuliani on bass, Benoit Corboz on keyboards and Marc Erbetta on drums.

The opening concert, titled "Jazz Meets Classical," takes place on March 5 at the Ahmed Adnan Saygun Arts Center (AASSM) and will be followed by seven concerts and an extensive program of sidebar events such as workshops, documentary screenings, a "Cine-Jazz Marathon" of five films and photography and poster exhibitions, according to the festival's website.

Scheduled to run until March 21, this will be the 22nd edition of the festival, organized by the yzmir Foundation for Culture, Arts and Education.
