Erie County Democratic Chairman, Steve Pigeon and Prominent Erie County Community and Political Leaders Endorse Dennis Mehiel for Lt. Governor.

ERIE COUNTY, N.Y. -- Earlier today Democratic Lieutenant Governor candidate Dennis Mehiel -- surrounded by more than a dozen local elected official and party leaders -- received the endorsements of several Erie County political leaders including Democratic Chairman Steve Pigeon. Amongst those scheduled to attend were: Crystal Peoples - County Legislator, Charles Swanick - County Legislator and John Kuryak - Mayor of the City of Lackawanna.

"I am endorsing Dennis Mehiel for Lt. Governor because of his effectiveness as a businessman, his vision and his agenda for attracting public and private sector investments to rebuild our economy, expand tourism and reform our failed educational system," said Steve Pigeon, Erie County Democratic Chairman.

"Dennis knows what it takes to create good jobs because he has been doing it for 35 years," added Crystal Peoples, Erie County Legislator. "He has proven himself an extremely effective businessman. His successful track record will be of great value to the next governor as well as to the economic future of New York State -- particularly areas in western New York."

"Western New Yorkers can not afford four more years of the same failed policies," said Steve Pigeon, Chairman of the Erie County Democratic Committee. "As Lt. Governor, Dennis Mehiel will bring experienced leadership that will fight to make our government work for all the people of our state."

"To earn the endorsement of so many influential and accomplished leaders in the County and in the State is a tribute to my campaign's message for rebuilding our economy, our environment and reforming our schools," said Dennis Mehiel. "I thank these leaders for their support. And I pledge to continually focus on the needs and hopes of upstate New York."

Mr. Mehiel is the Chairman and CEO of Sweetheart Cup Company. A long-time Democratic activist and community leader, he is a member of the Democratic National Committee, past Treasurer of the New York League of Conservation Voters, and Chairman of the Westchester County Democratic Committee from 1989 until 1994. As Chair of the state Democratic Party's Campaign Committee, he led the successful effort to raise Democratic voter turnout statewide in the 2000 general election.
