Central Municipal Council's (CMC) Chairman Mohammed Hamoud al Shafi has urged parents of brides and grooms to be suppler in terms of bride wealth, dowry and other demands that sometimes stand as barriers in the way of marriage and establishing a family among youth.

Shafi made the remarks in preparation for the celebration of Family Day in Qatar, which falls on the fifteenth of April every year, stressing the CMC's keenness in participating in the celebration of this day.

The CMC chairman cited the Prophet's (PBUH) advice for moderation in this matter.

"The state has made an effort to build a Qatari family that is founded on love, harmony and compassion, and has adopted policies, initiatives and legislation aimed at protecting the family's fabric and its members," the CMC chairman said.

He added,"Our state has also created an integrated system of social institutions that support the development and building of family as part of the Qatar National Vision 2030 and the National Development Strategy 2011-2016. Perhaps the most notable of these institutions are the Qatar Social Work Foundation and the Family Counselling Centre, which have proved to be effective in building and strengthening the bonds of marriage and family."

Shafi said that outstanding initiatives of the government include the establishment of wedding halls and celebration complexes in Riffa, Daayen and many other areas to cover all regions of the country in order to encourage marriage.
