Epson projectors to take 35% market share in Taiwan for 2009.
Taipei, Oct. 18, 2009 (CENS)--The strong demand on school campuses is likely to push Taiwan's market for projectors to grow by 5%-7%, to a total of 95,000 units this year and Epson, a famous Japanese brand, may see its market share here jump to 35% for the entire year.
In the first half of the year the Epson-branded projectors accounted for 29% of the total projectors sold in Taiwan and the percentage is expected to balloon to 35% for the full year with projected yearly sales of over 30,000 units on the island.
In the first half Taiwan market absorbed a total of 35,500 units of projectors; and of which, Epson took the largest market share of 29% and Optoma Corp., an affiliate of Coretronic Corp., followed with 23%.
Chen Wei-chiun, general manager of Epson Taiwan Technology & Trading Ltd., indicated that Taiwan's elementary and high schools together need an estimated 45,000 projectors this year, if including those demanded by colleges and universities, then the purchase of projectors by all schools on the island may account for 65% of the total market demand here.
Chen disclosed that the Epson-branded projectors took a lion's share of 47% in high school market in the first half and in the second half Epson has unveiled seven new models, hoping to further upgrade its market share here.
However, market observers said, the prices of projectors this year have witnessed a sharp fall of more than 40% to NT$24,900-27,900 (US$754.55-845.45 at US$1 = NT$33) per unit in the campus market. They believed that next year the prices of projectors might further drop by 10%-15% in the market here.
