Episcopal appointment.

Pope Benedict XVI has named Father Marwan Tabet, M.L. as successor to Most Reverend Joseph Khoury as Eparchial Bishop of the Catholic Maronite Eparchy of Canada. At the time of his appointment, Fr. Tabet, of the Congregation of the Missionaries of Lebanon, was General Counsel for his religious community.

The fifty-one-year-old bishop-designate, who will head the Diocese of St. Maron of Montreal as bishop of the Maronite Catholics of Canada, was born in Lebanon. He speaks English, French, and Arabic. He was ordained a priest of the Lebanese Maronite Missionaries in 1986. He studied and served in several parishes in the United States and has advanced degrees in education administration and political philosophy as well as degrees in theology and philosophy. He has also received a doctoral degree in school administration from the University of South Africa.

The Maronite Eparchy of Canada has sixteen parishes and missions with a Catholic population of 4100. (Information from Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops.)
