Environmental group, Lite form partnership.

The Citizens Environmental Coalition (CEC) and Miller Lite will form a partnership to build an environmental resource center and promote environmental awareness in Texas, officials of both organizations announced.

Miller Brewing Co. and Lite have guaranteed a minimum contribution of $1 million to the CEC which will benefit the environmental center and support the development of environmental information and education programs in communities across Texas.

"We are extremely pleased to join Miller in further promoting environmental awareness," said Barbara Link, CEC executive director. "Miller has a positive environmental record and demonstrates their commitment to the environment through a number of innovative programs."

According to Lite's brand manager for regional programs Ann Janikowsky, Miller and its distributors in Texas will join with the CEC in conducting environmental literacy and fund-raising events. "The CEC is recognized as a leader in promoting environmental awareness, and our partnership with them enables us to extend our commitment to preserve our natural resources for those who will follow us."

Link added that the planned resource center will be the only building of its kind devoted exclusively to environmental information and education which is free and accessible to the general public. Construction is scheduled to begin in 1995.

"In addition to a library, which will house the CEC's collection of environmental materials compiled over 20 years," Link continued, "the resource center will include an educational center and support services utilizing advanced communications and information technology."
