Enjoy a fine romance on St Valentine's Day.

THE COURSE of true love can run smooth despite the old saying - provided you plan ahead.

A bit of forethought for St Valentine's Day will allow you to be ambitious and get a great romantic gift.

Think candlelit dinner at the best restaurant, seats for a must-see show, delivery of the biggest blooms, some fine jewellery, classy lingerie or even a wonderful weekend away.

But unless you want to end up giving a chocolate bar or a pathetic posy from the petrol station, now's the time to plan ahead for February 14.

It's the one day in the year when you are expected to show your love and devotion to your partner.

There are a million ways to express that love - along with thousands of things that don't quite make it.

And last-minute gifts are the absolute no-no.

Don't kid yourself that your partner doesn't know you stopped off on the way home. It's no way to celebrate passion and partnership.

So, think ahead - we all appreciate the work that goes into giving.

Book that favourite restaurant now. Get the best table and avoid looking like the last-minute guest sat next to the draughty door.

Don't settle for the last limp-looking rose in the shop, book now and order a beautiful bouquet - to be delivered first thing on the 14th.

A bargain last-minute ticket for the best show in town isn't a bargain if you can't see the stage.

Love means - not leaving it to the last minute.

This Valentine's Day, aim to be the perfect partner. It's time to find the ideal gift.
