Energizer buys 3 feminine care brands.

ST. LOUIS -- Energizer Holdings Inc. has agreed to acquire the Stayfree pad, Carefree liner and o.b. tampon feminine hygiene brands in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean from McNeil PPC Inc. and Johnson & Johnson Inc. Energizer will pay $185 million in cash for all brand assets, including the J&J manufacturing plant in Montreal.

Subject to customary conditions, the deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter of this year.

"We are very excited about the prospect of combining the Stayfree pad., Carefree liner and o.b. tampon feminine hygiene business with our Playtex Feminine Care business, strengthening both in the process," says Ward Klein, chief executive officer of Energizer. "Combining these complementary businesses gives us brands in each of the key feminine hygiene categories."
