Empower inks key district cooling contract.

Emirates Central Cooling Corporation (Empower) has signed a contract with Allied Consultants Limited, a development consulting company, to ensure supply of 53,000 refrigeration tonnes (RT) of district cooling services to the Tijara Town development.

The contract was signed by Ahmad bin Shafar, CEO of Empower, and Ahmed Abdul Ghani, chairman of Allied Consultants.

The Dh6 billion ($1.63 billion) Tijara Town, located in Dubailand and developed by Dubai Properties, will be the first project in the emirate to offer integrated offices, showrooms, warehouses and residential apartments as one unit.

Empower, the largest district cooling service provider in the region, will be responsible for the Tijara Town district cooling plant, while Allied Consultants will carry out the design and supervision of the seven kilometer chilled water distribution piping network.

EmpowerCOs scope of services at the Tijara Town development involves the cooling of multiple buildings or facilities from one or more central plants, all linked together via a chilled water piping network.

District cooling provides significant economic benefits for large scale users, with latest estimates indicating it will grow into a $30 billion industry in the next 10 years in the Middle East.

Located close to Emirates Road, Tijara Town will span 188 hectares. With 51 customizable freehold mixed-used units of 7,700 square metres each, the development seeks to help businesses improve efficiency through low operational costs.

A joint venture between Tecom Investments and Dubai electricity and water authority, Empower recently won global recognition when it received four prestigious awards at the International District Energy AssociationCOs 99th annual conference in Florida.

The company currently handles projects for several prominent developments in Dubai, including the Dubai International Financial Centre, Dubai Healthcare City, Jumeirah Beach Residence, Culture Village, Business Bay, and the City of Arabia.- TradeArabia News Service
