Emmons Waldo Putnam, 85.
Born and raised in Worcester, MA, he was son of the late Emmons Waldo Putnam Sr. and Ethel Chase Putnam. He served in World War II as a Technician Fifth Grade in Europe from 1942-1946. He earned a Bachelor's Degree in English at Clark University in 1948, married Mary Adams, and resided at Berkshire School, Sheffield, MA, where he was an English teacher and Director of Admissions from 1953-1971. He then lived in Northampton, MA and Worcester, MA before moving to Wilmington, NC in 1988.
Survivors include 4 children, Kathryn Putnam of Chesapeake, VA, Scott Putnam (Barbara) of Littleton, CO, Brett Putnam (Sandra) of Loudonville, NY, and Cori Beth Johansen (Josh) of Wilmington, NC; and 4 grandchildren, Megan, Andrew, Kate, and Ethan.
Relatives and friends may attend a memorial service at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 6 at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Home, 3915 Oleander Drive, Wilmington, NC (910-392-4444). Contributions may be made in memory of Emmons Waldo Putnam to Berkshire School, 245 Undermountain Rd., Sheffield, MA 01257.
