Emissions worry.

SIR - I sympathise with MEP Jill Evans in her childless plight (Western Mail, January 27) and accept that ordinary household products are a contributory cause. However her residence near the NYG landfill is also a primary factor. Despite being closed four years ago it still is not remediated.

For the last three years our council environment department has been weekly studying the indoor air quality of selected properties within the NYG area and the results have proved enlightening.

Each house has a unique pattern reflective of the lifestyle of the inhabitants but when an odour is detected the pattern changes radically and more diverse and divergent numbers are found.

Two of the participants in this protocol have paid privately to have their fat bio assayed. Both have proved positive for chemicals present both in their homes and on NYG. A plea to the local health board to monitor the fat of those willing has been rejected on the pretext that it constitutes an invasion of privacy.

I make an informed choice on the products in use in my home. Emissions from NYG arrive unannounced and unwelcome

Our environmental group Rant is holding an All Wales Environmental Conference in the Heritage Park Hotel, Porth on March 4 (evening) and 5. The Hapsite Team from the Rhondda Cynon Taff council will be there as well as other speakers from our council and from all over Wales
